Beverly Alt-Biography

Mrs. Alt is an experienced Choral/General Music teacher and Conductor with over 35 years of experience in public and private education and church music. She is knowledgeable in sacred and secular repertoire, and skilled in program building, team building, and dedicated to teaching young people to excel in choral music.

Mrs. Alt is delighted to return to Northwest High School after retiring in 2013. During 2014 to 2016 she taught Pre-K through 8th grade general music at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in High Point and accompanied Masses there. She also worked as Choral Director at Northern Guilford High School during the 2016-2017 school year. While at Northwest Guilford her choirs performed across the state, country and internationally. Her groups earned many top rankings at competitions and were featured performers in venues in New York, Orlando, and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  She has an extensive knowledge of musical theater and has music directed several shows. Mrs. Alt worked with students enrolled in area colleges and universities as a cooperating teacher, mentoring many student teachers and interns throughout her career. Many of these students are teaching throughout the southeast. In 2011 Mrs. Alt was named the NC State Choral Music Educator of the Year by the North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA). While at Northwest Guilford Mrs. Alt implemented the Advanced Placement Music Theory program and taught it for twelve years.   From 1998 to 2014 Mrs. Alt coordinated both All County and Allstate Choral Festivals for Guilford County Schools and NCMEA.

Mrs. Alt has extensive experience as a Church Musician as well. An accomplished accompanist and soloist, she has been music director for area churches and currently is the Children's Choir director at West Market Street United Methodist Church. At West Market Street she serves as a member of the Chancel Choir, MarketBell Ringers, as well as directing the elementary aged choirs. She is Chairperson of the Music and Art Committee and is on the staff of the Summer Music Camp. She assists the Music Director with preparation of major works by leading sectional rehearsals. 

Mrs. Alt is a graduate of Brevard College (1980, AFA) and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (1983, BM, 1990, MM). She is Nationally Board Certified in Music/Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood.
